The photo shoot for the North Kiteboarding product catalogue 2005 took place in the Dominican Republic, right after the PKRA World Cup in Cabarete.

In the event itself, I have to admit, I did not too great as some strange bug invaved my system about 1 week before the competition that made me super drowsy and extremely tired. Whilst others where training hard the days before the competition hit off, Kitegabi was lying in bed with fever, blocked ears, feeling so ill and weak…

For the photo shoot I was almost 100% back on track and it was a great pleasure touring around the island with the North team and the team manager Christine Gutter. This shoot was taken by Steven Whitesell just a little downwind from famous ‘Kitebeach’ in Cabarete.

Tourism brochure of the Upper Austrian Tourism Organisation, featuring photos of Kitegabi flying high in front of the spectacular scenery of the ‘Traunsee’ (lake Traun), a poular tourist destination in the ‘Salzkammergut’. The Traunsee is one of Austrias most beautiful lakes and excellent place for wind-enthusiasts of all fields: sailing, wind- and kitesurfing.

I adore the Traunsee for its breathtaking surrounding. Rindbach in Ebensee at the northerly tip of the lake is the spot to kite- and windsurf. Who wants to enjoy the action by board on the lake, often needs some patience as the Traunsee is not the most wind-reliable place and even if the wind comes up, it’s usually rather light. However, insider tip for the lake on clear days in summer: get an early start and go at dawn, then it’s rather common, to have good 4-5 Bft between the hours of 5 and 9!

Oh my God, I still remember the ‘Kitegabi Automobil’ like it’s downstairs standing in my garage. It was THE most perfect car e v e r!! Pure luxury, leather seats (of course heated for cooler days), high-tech stereo, all automatic, lots-a-horepowerds and above all: massive space!

Yep in the year that I had the pleasure of having KIA as a partner I travelled 35.000kms .. hihihi, yeah, took out all the seats in the back, installed a bed, below I had more than enough storing space for my gear and off I went. Straight after the PKRA World Cup in Austria, I hit the road and travelled all the way to Belgium for the next stop of the World Tour and further to Southern Spain, Tarifa… I even passed by in Monte Carlo and parked the kitegabi automobile right outside the central casino, where it was in good company with Ferraris, Maseratis and Royce Royces! Sick car, will never forget those times.

This was my first appearance in the annual catalogue. Photos were taken in Brazil at the Lagoa de Cauipe when it ws still uncrowded and rather unknown. In fact the shoot for the catalogue was my first ‘official’ photoshoot ever, how exciting and then on top of everything back then in 2004 with one of the biggest names in kitesurf photography, Steven Whitesell from Hawaii.
