{"id":2359,"date":"2008-07-28T22:31:29","date_gmt":"2008-07-28T20:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kitegabi.com\/en\/?p=2359"},"modified":"2008-08-10T19:30:11","modified_gmt":"2008-08-10T17:30:11","slug":"traveling-pathway-to-new-horizons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kitegabi.com\/en\/help\/mytips\/travels-mytips-help\/traveling-pathway-to-new-horizons\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel tip: PACKING (part 2) TRAVEL PHARMACY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Absolutely essential in your travel pharmacy (medical kit) are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 <strong>individually necessary drugs for chronic illnesses or allergies<\/strong> etc., however, also e.g.: cleansing liquid for contact lens bearers, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>strong antiseptic:<\/strong> an absolute must!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>dressing material to treat wounds, cuts, etc.: <\/strong> plasters, sterile gauzes, elastic bandages, mediswabs, surgical tape, wound dressings, scicors etc.\u00a0 important: liquid bandaid!\u00a0 Also try to get some of the above in the water-proof version!\u00a0 And NEVER forget a whole load of duck tape (the most resiliant protection for the water!!). In extremely remote places sterile needles and a medical sewing kit can really come in handy.\u00a0 Same accounts for &#8216;strips&#8217; in order to adhere a wound rather than stitching it up!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>wound, antiseptic cream<\/strong> to treat burns and cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>vesicant ointment:<\/strong> that&#8217;s &#8216;the sh\u00a7$&#8217; guys, absolutely imperative in order to treat unwanted encounters with corals, sea urchins, etc. and in many countries not available;\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>don&#8217;t forget the tweezers !!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>analgetics<\/strong> and <strong>antipyretics<\/strong> contra fever and pain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>antihistaminikum<\/strong> for allergic reactions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; medication for <strong>nausea <\/strong>and <strong>vomiting<\/strong> as well as for <strong>diarrhea.<\/strong> Also:\u00a0 electrolyte powder (substitute of water and salts which the body has lost).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>anti-inflammatory<\/strong> <strong>drugs<\/strong> and <strong>sport-gels:<\/strong> to treat bruises and swelling.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>ear drops<\/strong> and ideally some quality ear-plugs for the water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>eye drops<\/strong>: dust, wind or sunlight cause on travelling often conjunctivitis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>throat lozenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>mosquito repellent<\/strong> and at some destinations:\u00a0 mosquito net (!!) the only way of drifting off into sweet dreams!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong> broad-spectrum antibiotic:<\/strong> if discomfort of the above discomfort becomes too violent. Antibiotics are only available on prescription and should be taken only if it is absolutely necessary, nevertheless it&#8217;s recommandable to carry some (a product of a known phrama-company)\u00a0 for acute cases and when there&#8217;s no doctor or hospital around.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>malaria-prophylaxe\/malaria tablets<\/strong>: for most malarial territories it is sufficient to bring drugs just for emergency cases.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; do not forget to <strong>check on and get recommended vaccinations!<\/strong> For many countries protective inoculations are recommended. Because some vaccinations, as for example hepatitis A must be carried out several times, make sure you inform yourself well ahead of your trip at the tropical institute or hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A valuable tip with regards to the volume and weight of your medical travel kit:\u00a0 simply take everything out of its original packaging. Instructions can easily be fixed with an elastic band or tape right onto the drug itself.<\/p>\n<p>Last but certainly not least:\u00a0 please <strong>ensure<\/strong> you are <strong>covered by your MEDICAL INSURANCE <\/strong>whilst being abroad.
