Generally kiteboarding is a safe sport as long as one:<\/p>\n
a)\u00a0 goes through a professional introduction & training\u00a0 and<\/p>\n
b)\u00a0 ALWAYS respects the power of nature.<\/p>\n
I usually compare its danger level to scuba diving which is a safe sport as long as one does a course and progresses through experience from\u00a0 \u2018open water-level\u2019\u00a0 to \u2018advanced\u2019 to \u2018rescue diver\u2019 and so on.\u00a0 If one would go to a shop and simply buy a scuba diving equipment and go diving, an accident is pretty much pre-programmed.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the same with kitesurfing with the small but very profound difference that there\u2019s no license officially required like in scuba diving… one actually\u00a0 c a n\u00a0 just go into any shop, buy a kite and go hurt him\/herself…<\/p>\n
Although kitesurfing is easier to learn than windsurf or surf, 2 reasons make it potentially more dangerous:<\/p>\n
1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The dangers are not as visible as in surfing, i.e. nobody would paddle out into \u2018Pipeline\u2019 (Oahu\u2019s North Shore) who doesn\u2019t have the skill to do so,\u00a0 whereas in kitesurfing the power of the wind is not as obvious as the one of a monster-wave.<\/p>\n
2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One is attached to the equipment and in some situations it\u2019s a matter of a split second that one has to react in order to avoid an accident from happening.\u00a0 Experience is the main factor when it comes to that reaction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
