Shandrani Mauritius Kitesurf Event 2004, 12-18 July

The Shandrani and Beachcomber Hotels introduced the first kitesurf contest on the beautiful island of Mauritius in 2002. The Shandrani Kitesurf Weekend encouraged initiation to kitesurfing, exhibitions by local riders and most of all, sharing the fun with the public. This year again, the 5-star Shandrani Hotel is hosting SHANDRANI KITESURF EVENT 2004, from the 12th to the 18th of July 2004. The four ‘Spacemonkeys’ – Jaime Herraiz, Will James, Jeff Tobias and Martin Vari – and me were chosen to form the judges panel as well as to run some ‘clinics’ for experienced kitesurfers and to perform exhibitions.

Wooow, I guess I don’t have to mention how stoked I was when I got this ‘invitation to paradise’ a few months ago. Mauritius has always been a dream destination of mine and – after hooking up with the ‘Monkeys’ and the Tronolone Productions film crew in Paris – arriving here in ‘First Class’ thanks to Air Mauritius, was certainly the right start to this incredible trip…hehehe, the champagne, inflight entertainment, incredible cuisine and huuuge seats made this 10 hour flight, a pure joy! check out www.airmauritius.com for flight schedules and further info.

Situated on a private peninsula, the Shandrani offers a choice of three separate beaches with different ambiences and a magnificent tropical garden. Four restaurants and a wide selection of sports and recreational activities are available – football, volleyball, bocciball, bicycle, aerobics, tennis (6 floodlit courts) and a 9-hole golf course onthe land; water-ski, windsurf, sailing, kayak, pedalo, scuba-diving in the sea … do I need to say more!!?

please check out the Beachcomber Hotelgroup for further info.Tomorrow we’re hoping for good wind for the planned crossing to the l’Ile Aux Cerfs and Sunday, we”ll be seeing the local riders rippin’ in the contest…can’t wait!
