HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY mates !!!

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY mates !!!

Yeah, today the 26th of January is Australia Day and commemorates the establishment of the first settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788. It is an opportunity for Australians to come together to celebrate their country and culture. There are reflections on the achievements of the nation and explorations of way to make the country even better in the future.

Australia Day is a public holiday and quite a big party all around the country. Most people have a day off work and use the day to picnic in a park, to go shopping or to play or to watch sports events
….around the area that I’m hanging out at currently, obviously most people spend the day ‘partying’ in the water, wind-, kite-, surfing…snorkeling or just lazing around in the sun on one of the breathtaking beaches ! In some places, particularly Lake Burley Griffin, spectacular public fireworks displays are held. In addition, the Australian of the Year Awards are presented. These are awards for Australians who have made an outstanding contribution to their country or community.

Forecast for wind & waves looks veeeery good for this afternoon and I’m finishing off urgent errands and stuff this morning in order to celebrate Australia day out there @ my favourite hangout, the Indian Ocean 🙂

Find a couple of impressions from Western Australia and the beauty this amazing continent has to offer in the photo gallery on the side. Enjoy & have fun whereva u r and whateva u’re up 2 !! Catch u later mates, Yours Gabi
